COMMUNITY ARTS COORDINATOR
Position: Community Arts Coordinator
Location: East Scarborough, Ontario
Start Date: May 6, 2024
Pay: $23/hr
Term: This is a 8-week and 30 hours per week contract from May 6 to June 30, 2024.
About Community Arts Guild:
Community Arts Guild uses art to build community. We are a non-profit arts organization situated in the beautiful and vibrant East Scarborough community. We spark collaborations between professional artists and people of all ages and backgrounds with different levels of artistic skill, experience, and confidence. We use art to realize the creative potential of people and places and form new connections and understanding between people who may not otherwise meet.
We make art of all kinds, collaborating across disciplines and traditions, but most often creating performances and events that draw on parade, puppetry, and installation. Through a partnership with the City of Toronto, we are housed at the beautiful Cedar Ridge Creative Centre, surrounded by a park and garden on a ravine. We offer flexible programs and projects, some small and process-focused, and others large-scale presentations developed over many months or years; we are grounded in relationships and motivated by shared artistic excitement.
About the role:
The Community Arts Coordinator(s) will have the opportunity to work closely with professional artists and develop their artistic and community building skills, while learning arts administration and business skills including planning, producing, implementing and evaluating projects. Their contributions will be featured in our public showcases, and they will have the opportunity to meet and form connections with many professional contacts, and practice working in a collaborative environment with people of all ages.
Location:
Cedar Ridge Creative Centre, 225 Confederation Drive, partner sites in East Scarborough including many outdoor locations. Remote work is also required.

Self-directed and reliable
Organized, good attention to detail
Comfortable working in a flexible, collaborative work environment
Enjoys working outdoors and in parks
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills, enjoys working with people
Respect for diverse people and communities, committed to working towards inclusion and equity
Experience and/or training in Performing or Visual Arts, Technical Theatre, Community Arts, or Arts Administration is preferred
Community outreach and customer service experience is an asset
G-class license is an asset
Tasks and responsibilities:
Participate in project planning
Join in prep, setup and strike of art activities
Assist with facilitation, welcoming members of the public and helping them engage with the art activities, and assist artists leading workshops
Provide extra support to children, seniors, youth and people with disabilities to better integrate them into activities and make the activities more accessible
Help with outreach: calling regular participants, social media posting, email, flyering
Contribute to the development and implementation of our theatre performance through creative activities
Notetaking, data entry including fieldnotes for workshops and activities, consent forms, attendance records and maintaining our contact database
Assist with documentation and evaluation of our projects
Other tasks as assigned
This position is supported by the Canada Summer Jobs program. As specified in the program requirements, the successful candidate:
Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and;
Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
